James O'Keefe is the Founder and President of Project Veritas, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing a national network of effective and courageous undercover citizen journalists. O'Keefe's groundbreaking investigations have exposed corruption and malfeasance in major taxpayer-funded institutions, including ACORN, Planned Parenthood, public education, labor unions, NPR, Medicaid, Organizing for America, State Election Divisions, Obamaphones, and many other organizations. And this crucial work continues.

O'Keefe's undercover investigations have generated media firestorms that frequently prompt state investigations, federal inquiries, and congressional action. Investigations into entitlements have led to worker retrainings, firings and criminal investigations by authorities. Recently, O'Keefe's voter fraud exposés inspired several states to reform their election laws, induced high-level resignations in Washington, and forcing FBI and Department of Justice officials to defend themselves before lawmakers.

Even the left-Nation wrote, "O'Keefe's influence on voting rights opponents and legislators alike is particularly jarring." Slate conceded, "O'Keefe has had more of an impact on the 2012 election than any other journalist." And O'Keefe succeeded despite constant threats of legal action from embarrassed State Attorney Generals and relentless defamation from major media.

In 2013, O'Keefe authored The New York Times bestselling book Breakthrough: Our Guerilla War to Expose Fraud and Save Democracy, which tells the true story of subverting a corrupt and complacent media establishment, surviving many gratuitous legal challenges, and restoring truth to journalism by successfully pioneering a new form of guerilla reporting.

O'Keefe is a graduate of Rutgers University. A congressional resolution was introduced in 2009 with 31 cosponsors praising him for his work. He is the recipient of the Robert Novak Award for Journalistic Excellence (2011), has been named "Fox News Power Player of the Week" twice by Chris Wallace, and was placed on the Forbes 30 under 30 for media moguls.

Cynthia Jeub: How to Get Into Trouble

My last post left a few questions: what qualifies as doing something right? If you’re on the wrong side of the law, you’ve done something wrong, haven’t you? Isn’t this just a big excuse for self-righteous foolhardiness?

The real reasons people ask these questions are because the lines are getting blurred between the law and justice. As Bastiat said it, in the minds of the people, there is no difference between law and justice. They mean the same thing for most. So when a ten-year-old boy tries to offer life-saving water to a starving woman’s lips and is arrested and sentenced to a written apology and community service for his crime of trespassing on the premises of a hospice, things get confusing.

My dad recently announced that another young man with a similar charge and record will be speaking at our For Action conference in January. James O’Keefe gets plenty of attack every day from people who doubt his integrity in his attempts to expose corruption.

There are plenty of people who don’t know the real story, and hate James when they should support his efforts. A guy with a camera should be rallied behind, as this child and this young man proved when they happened to run into bad cops.

My point here isn’t to dispel myths. I tell the story as it happened and people wonder why it’s such a big deal. Some guys tried to do an undercover film shoot and got in big trouble for, well, standing there in odd costumes. Read James’ book and, stay with me here, I’m not asking you to believe it. I’m just asking that you read his story before believing what’s written in top YouTube comments and tweets.
